STEM is used in a variety of agricultural enterprises. By way of example the 50+ 1st Year students of Agricultural Science at Institute of Technology Tralee visited a local dairy farm to sample some of the science.

David Lenihan of IT Tralee provided insights into how Dairy Science and Technology had advanced to the point that the cow heard were being milked by a robot.

Jim Kelly of IT Tralee gave an overview of how Soil Science was being used on the farm to understand how to manage nutrients inputs and grass production.

Tomas Houlihan of Teagasc brought the students through the conifer and broadleaf sections of the 20 year old plantation on the farm and explained how the forester and the farmer jointly manage the production cycle of the forestry using a combination of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

This event took place on 10th November to coincide with the visits to the farm of the Soil Scientist and the Forestry Advisor
