Over the course of the festival, students, educators, researchers, and the wider community came together to explore new ideas, share knowledge, and spark curiosity across all ages. Let’s take a look back at what Kerry Science Festival 2025 had to offer and relive some of the standout moments that made this year so special.
Showcase Day
Showcase Day was jam-packed with hands-on activities and buzzing with energy, welcoming over 1,000 attendees throughout the day. MTU North Campus came alive as families, students, and curious minds explored a wide range of interactive exhibits and workshops. Kerry County Museum and Tralee Bay Wetlands captivated visitors with engaging exhibitions, while popular workshops from Nutty Scientists, Wise Wool, Go Fly Your Kite, and many more kept all ages learning through fun and discovery. This year also marked the exciting debut of Showcase Day in An Cuan, a new venue that proved to be a fantastic fit and contributed to the vibrant atmosphere and overall success of the event.
2025 Engineering Symposium
The REEdI Engineering Symposium was a standout highlight of the 2025 festival, bringing together industry professionals and students for a day of insight, innovation, and collaboration. Second year students had the opportunity to present their projects to industry members in hopes of attaining work placement for their final two years as part of the REEdI programme. The symposium showcased cutting-edge engineering research and real-world applications, with engaging talks and discussions that highlighted the role of engineering in addressing current and future challenges. Speakers on the day included Prof. Joseph Walsh and the IMAR Research Centre team, Niamh Wafer from Engineers Ireland, Prof. Denis Dennehy of Swansea University, Fiona Boyle, Director of REEdI, and Dr. Seán McSweeney, Faculty Dean of Engineering. Student speakers Caren Karamagi, currently completing a placement with Astellas, and Jimmy Keane, who is undertaking his placement with Sanmina also voiced their experiences on the day to inspire and inform the second year students who will be embarking on their placement next year.
