Munster Technological University (MTU) is proud to launch Kerry Science Festival 2025, celebrating a decade of discovery as part of Research Ireland’s National Science Week. Taking place throughout November, the festival brings science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths (STEAM) to life for all ages across Kerry.
Science Week 2025 also marks its 30th anniversary with the theme Then.Today.Tomorrow. Managed by Research Ireland, the programme reflects on three decades of curiosity and collaboration, celebrating how science has shaped our lives while exploring the challenges and opportunities of the future.
Since its beginnings in 2015, Kerry Science Festival has grown into one of the region’s flagship public engagement programmes. Each year, the festival reaches thousands of schoolchildren, families, and communities, offering interactive events, exhibitions, and workshops that spark curiosity and inspire future innovators.
Highlights of Kerry Science Festival 2025 include:
· STEM Showcase Day (Saturday, 15th November, MTU Kerry Campus) – the festival’s largest public event, packed with interactive exhibitions, hands-on experiments, and family activities.
· Engineering Careers Symposium – connecting student engineers with industry leaders to explore future careers and Ireland’s innovation economy.
· Pint of Science – informal evening events where researchers share their work in pubs and cafés around Kerry.
· Biodiversity at Tralee Bay Wetlands – interactive talks and outdoor explorations on local ecosystems and how science helps protect our natural environment.
· Tom Crean: Science & Discovery (Kerry County Museum) – a special exhibition uncovering the scientific and navigational achievements of the legendary Antarctic explorer.
· Community Workshops – including Blocks4Change, empowering local groups to address sustainability challenges through creativity and collaboration.
· Schools Programme – a county-wide series of classroom workshops and talks.
Marking the milestone, Professor Maggie Cusack, President of MTU, said:
“For ten years, Kerry Science Festival has captured imaginations and created opportunities for people of all ages to explore science in engaging ways. At MTU, we are proud to host a festival that celebrates science and technology as part of everyday life, and inspires the next generation of problem-solvers, innovators, and leaders.”
Professor Joseph Walsh, Faculty Vice Dean, Research and Innovation – Engineering. and Festival Director, added:
“From humble beginnings to reaching thousands annually, Kerry Science Festival has become a cornerstone of STEAM engagement in the South-West. Its success reflects the power of collaboration between educators, industry, and communities. As we enter the next decade, our commitment is to make science accessible, exciting, and relevant for all.”
